Desi to videsi metamorphosis .....

Most of us who belong to the upper middle class in india know how we started our student life with almost no brand identities to spending the cool dude lifestlye 's in the new education paltforms. These changes from Lakme to Loreal , Bombay Dyeing to tommy hilfiger, shahrukh khan to Leonardo DiCaprio (no offence to shahruk fans) was easy and inevitable. Most of us might have thought in the beginning this little hing in our lifestyle would not impact our values and beliefs... well did it then...? huh i know what my answer is to this question but i cannot represent one answer for all the desi's who fall into this catogory.

From the typical indian studious student who works non-stop to stay always top of the class and makes his parent proud..to the new indian student who competes globally on a wider scope to prove talents on an internationall level, challenges are doomed . The whole world is openning to budding talents from desi's in fields other than IT , and medicine. I have seen some desi's perform on main stream television shows like Apprentice, America's next top model , the latest American idol, and the controversial big brothers show. All though none of them won except for shilpa, racial and cultural variations were unclouded. Most of them failed at the line of scrimmage with international competitors. Does competition on these international standards really want us to loose our essense which is unique and stand up for something just for the sake of some calculative benefits?

Most o f the NRI's whome i know are trained here right from their birth and some of them keep up to their roots and some of them act as if they never saw india.Students who come for their MS are also more or less the same. Education now is more than just getting graduated.. it has loads of fun, oppurtunities, careers , networking and for some it may be meeting people who might be sharing the common interests in life and become their significant others. This evolving system involves our families also who may or may not be willing to catch up. Does this metamorphosis have to be only between us and our family? Is this change micro or macro? well where ever it started it sure impacts the entire nation. In these evolving scientific and technological ecomomy's the only universal culture is dinnig, dressing, and stocking more and more money (and relationships? they seem to be juggling for survival).

A fresh approach to all this metamorphosis is what i saw in my home town. a very intersting blend of combining the best of east and west lifestyles.

What we see in corporate India today is a moral effort some great enterprenuers are investing by coming backhome and giving ..

Recently i have seen some articles on gramIT in 'jallikakinada'. Here are few links:

The Byrraju Foundation, by the family of Satyam Computer Chairman Ramalinga Raju, is very inspirational for youngsters who are reaching heights abroad and would love to keep their desi roots nourished. If all of us can maintain our desi side along with utilizing the videsi knowledge the metamorphosis will never be regretful.
